Web series Breaking Silence shines a light on Aotearoa's shamefully high rates of domestic abuse and family violence. Presenter and author Simonne Butler, herself a survivor of a brutal attack in her twenties, meets a range of everyday New Zealanders who have suffered abuse from partners and family members, or who are dedicated to educating Aotearoa about a national problem. Episodes cover different forms of abuse; physical and psychological as well as insidious forms of control like financial abuse and cyberstalking. Butler also visits a women's refuge and the New Zealand Police College.
