Pioneering broadcaster Shirley Maddock leads another tranquil trip to the Hauraki Gulf, this time visiting the islands of Motuihe and Motutapu. Captain Fred Ladd a fixture of the series discusses plane trips with pregnant women in labour, and his philosophies on flying. Also featured is a visit to the Cotter family farm on Motutapu Island, an exploration of rural schooling and a celebration of flora and fauna. Motuihe Island's war history is also in focus as the navy barracks holds a fascinating past — including escapee prisoners of war. Maddock's daughter Elisabeth Easther writes about Islands of the Gulf here.
