The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in State Care followed on from another big investigation of state abuse in Aotearoa. Kararaina Rangihau (Tūhoe, Te Arawa) is the daughter of John Te Rangiāniwaniwa Rangihau, the chairman of the committee who delivered Puao-te-ata-tu, The Daybreak Report a damning 1986 look at institutional racism in state care. In her short film, Rangihau reflects on her whakapapa and the integral place of whanau within te ao Māori. In te reo Māori, she echoes her father's call for Māori tamariki to remain with and be nurtured by their own tribal hapu and iwi.
