Unitone HiFi

Unitone HiFi formed in Auckland in 1990 when Joost Langeveld invited Jim Pinckney (aka Stinky Jim) to collaborate on a track for Deepgrooves records. Their debut single ‘Sitting By The Telephone’ became a poppy Auckland summer hit, and the duo would go on to release three albums of dubby Pacifican groove to local and international acclaim — 1995’s Wickedness Increased, and both companion remix album Rewound + Rerubbed and Boomshot the following year. Most prolific between 1990 and 1996, Unitone HiFi remain sporadically active, at points including Angus McNaughton and Eddie Chambers.
