Ellory Elkayem

Director

Christchurch-born and raised, Ellory Elkayem began making films as a teen. After his 13-minute, spider monster movie homage Larger than Life won solid international sales, Roland Emmerich (Independence Day director) invited him to expand his spider tale into $30 million Hollywood feature: Eight Legged Freaks. Since then Elkayem has specialised in horror. Future projects include films and a series of interactive e-books.

Now here is Eight Legged Freaks, which has laughs, thrills, wit and scary monsters, and is one of those goofy movies like Critters that kids itself and gets away with it. Roger Ebert, 17 July 2002
