Blenheim-raised Aaron Falvey began making films with friends at the age of nine. Since then he has directed short films which have played in a number of overseas festivals. His World War ll drama The Flame was judged best local short film at the 2017 Auckland International Film Festival. In November 2019 he began shooting his first feature, post-apocalyptic drama Northspur. Keen to encourage the growth of a viable film industry in the upper South Island, Falvey co-founded the Top of the South Film Production Society in 2015, plus a film festival of the same name. He has also worked for the NZ Defence Force making promotional videos.
I want to allow filmmakers in our region to have access to a wider pool of talent to enable them to produce the best films possible ... my long term goal is to establish a thriving film industry in the region which creates employment opportunities for our talented cast and crew.
