David Farrier joined TV3 in 2006, direct from a Bachelor of Communication Studies at AUT. As entertainment reporter for Nightline, he was known for his reliably offbeat sign-off; his interviews ranged from Hollywood stars to the sublimely ridiculous. Farrier later left TV3 and made a documentary about the dark underside of competitive tickling, which he directed with fellow Kiwi Dylan Reeve. After playing at America's Sundance Film Festival in 2016, Tickled attracted lawsuits, award nominations and widespread acclaim. Farrier then presented globetrotting Netflix series Dark Tourist, before directing documentary feature Mister Organ.

“That’s the way I’ve always treated my TV stories, to be a bit irreverent and to be serious but not too serious, to be funny but not too funny. And so I think that translated into the film.”

David Farrier describes his competitive tickling documentary Tickled, Roger Ebert website, 21 June 2016
