Growing up in Wellington, Davida McKenzie developed a passion for performance much like her actress grandmother Dame Kate Harcourt, mother Dame Miranda Harcourt and sister Thomasin McKenzie. As a child, McKenzie acted in a string of local short films and commercials, before breaking into international productions in her teens. In 2021 she joined the ensemble cast of British comedy Silent Night, followed by American crime movie The Speedway Murders, and Australian horror Leviticus. In 2026 she will feature in Taika Waititi's film adaptation of science-fiction novel Klara and the Sun, as an android "friend".

“Growing up I was adamant that I didn’t want to be an actress, and I wanted to stray away from that world. However, as I got older I realised how much I loved stepping into a character, and creating a family with the cast and crew on sets.”
