- Writer
Writer Erica Cassidy (née Molloy) first entered the screen industry in the late 90s, after studying at Auckland University and the Avalon Film and Television School. Children's television has become Cassidy's speciality — she's written for staples like Suzy's World and Sticky TV, as well as animated show Darwin and Newts and long-running series Toi Time (starring Anika Moa). Cassidy created kids' series Māia the Brave, which she also wrote and co-produced. She is also the writer of short film Hope's War, a WWll story about a Kiwi teenager with German ancestry.
Screenography
“The best thing about writing Māia the Brave has been its impact on kids and their parents. I've had people thank me because they never knew what to do if their child encountered a strange dog or had to go into hospital for surgery. To me, children's telly is about giving kids a voice and learning while you laugh.”
