Helen Bissett considers herself lucky to have had three distinct and diverse career paths: in music, television, and tourism. An initial career as an oboist led to her first job transition, as a stage manager for Yorkshire Television in England. The next two decades saw her working in television in a variety of production roles and locales.

Biography

Helen Bissett grew up in Auckland, in a musical family. Her mother was a violinist, and her siblings played the piano. "When it came to my turn, my mother wanted me to have all the chances possible to play. She asked around for what the orchestras needed, and from there I took up the oboe."

“My favourite role was being a producer — that’s what I enjoyed best. I think I’m just a bit of a control freak. I’m also very good with money, so I think it was a good place for me to be: keeping an eye on the whole creative and practical process, and making sure that things came in on time.”
