John Maybury was son of 1950s radio broadcaster Jack Maybury. John's own broadcasting career began with a nine year stint at Christchurch station 3ZB, before further radio time in Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne. On television, he presented talent and quiz shows, notably popular 60s talent slot Have A Shot. In the 2000s he co-hosted a Sky TV shopping show with Jennie Forder (née Goodwin). Maybury was an institution at Auckland's Royal Easter Show — official compere for five decades, he also did two as the show's entertainment manager. John Maybury passed away on 16 October 2016.
