Mike Jonathan has worked in the industry for roughly 30 years, primarily as a director and cinematographer. Alongside directing numerous television series for Whakaata Māori and Prime, and his own short films, Jonathan has been behind the camera on several high profile documentaries. He made his feature directing debut with Ka Whawhai Tonu (2024), whose cast includes actors Temuera Morrison and Cliff Curtis.

Biography

From the freezing works to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Mike Jonathan has built an impressive career through his commitment to New Zealand stories and characters, wherever they may appear. He has worked in the industry for almost 30 years, undertaking a variety of roles across a diverse range of genres and mediums. In 2024 he directed his first feature: Ka Whawhai Tonu.
