Actor, writer and musician Yvette Parsons grew up among "old souls" in Auckland; her parents ran a nursing hospital. She left for England in her early twenties, studied acting and played in goth band Dead Can Dance, before returning to New Zealand with her young son. Specialising in kooky characters, Parsons has acted in big screen comedies What We Do In the Shadows, Nude Tuesday and horror-comedy Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant. Her TV credits include roles in Shortland Street, Outrageous Fortune, Wellington Paranormal and web series Educators. In 2010 The NZ Herald named her solo show Silent Night as Best Play.
