After years of promoting and producing other people's movies, 48 Hours film contest founder Ant Timpson made his feature directing debut with this dark comic tale. Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) plays a musician who heads to a seaside house in Oregon to meet his father, who he hasn't seen in decades. Only Oregon may not have been a good idea. Come to Daddy won reviews praising its unpredictability, and invites to more than 20 festivals. The Kiwi-Canadian-Irish co-production was shot in Canada; it features Canadian Stephen McHattie (Pontypool, Watchmen), and Kiwi Madeleine Sami as the local coroner.
... Kiwi director Ant Timpson’s wild, unpredictable debut manages to deliver a gory hilarious father-son reunion saga ... a sentimental story about death and rediscovery that explodes into violent mayhem ... an absurd gross-out romp that turns into a tearjerker.– IndieWire reviewer Eric Kohn, 26 April 2019
