Profile image for Mareko

South Auckland rapper Mareko is of Samoan descent, and began his music career as a member of the Deceptikonz, an Auckland rap crew. The group had a big year in 2001, receiving nominations for several New Zealand music awards. Mareko then released a solo album, White Sunday, in 2003, which peaked at number four in the New Zealand charts. Two singles from the album also hit the charts that year: 'Here to Stay' (number four) and 'Stop Drop & Roll' (number six, and credited to Mareko featuring Deceptikonz).
