Bernie Cleal

Bernie Cleal was an Auckland-based camera operator who worked in television for more than three decades. After beginning his career building sets, Cleal found his home in the camera department during the early 1980s. Cleal worked on many stalwart news and current affairs shows for TVNZ and TV3, including 3 News, Fair Go, 7 Days and Good Morning — to name a few. Although predominately studio-based, his frequent work in sporting and live events often took him on location. On some productions he was behind the camera across many years, including Marae and Tagata Pasifika. Bernie Cleal passed away on 29 March 2023.
