Born and educated in England, David Weatherley served in the Canadian Army before arriving in New Zealand in 1961. His long theatre career included lead roles in everything from Henry V to Evita. Often he acted beside Ian Mune, who directed Weatherley in two men in a boat tale A Great Day — part of anthology series Winners and Losers. Weatherley’s many screen credits include roles in from Under The Mountain (as one of the aliens) to early drama series Spotlight, Shortland Street to Hounds, and Grampire to Power Rangers. In 2006 he won an award for his portrayal of a dementia sufferer in short film Together. Weatherly died on 12 December 2024.
