Rosemary Riddell

Rosemary Riddell is an actor turned District Court judge, who has also directed films. Riddell began her theatre career in the 70s at Downstage in Wellington. In 2009, with a directorial CV that encompassed one short film (Cake Tin) and many plays, Riddell took the reins of her first feature. The Insatiable Moon stars Rawiri Paratene (Whale Rider) as the charismatic resident of a halfway house, who claims to have a direct line to God. The film is based on a novel by her husband Mike.

In both roles I have to make sure people are heard, but also that I’m fair, impartial and keep control. Rosemary Riddell, on being a judge and a film director
