Sara Stretton is a television producer and director whose broadcasting career spanned more than two decades. Stretton began her career in 1985 as a production assistant for TVNZ in Wellington. From the public broadcasting era of TVNZ to the commercial pressures of the 1990s, Stretton contributed to some of New Zealand's most recognisable programmes, including Fair Go, Radio with Pictures and Target.
Biography
At the age of eight, Sara Stretton wrote to the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation requesting a scheduling change for Doctor Who. The show screened on Friday nights at 9pm, the only time she was allowed to stay up late, but she found it too scary and couldn’t sleep afterwards. Looking back, she laughs that perhaps she should have recognised it as a sign: "It should have been an indication of what was coming up, but nope, I ignored all the signs."
