Sporting Life

Television, 1973–1981

Sporting Life was a long-running magazine show which looked at sporting stories and figures from around New Zealand (and sometimes overseas). The show covered all manner of sports, from rugby to yachting to hot air ballooning. Sporting Life provoked complaints after an early episode argued that Kiwis looked upon rugby league as a "second class sport". Created by Des Monaghan, the series featured a cavalcade of reporters over its life span, including Bill McCarthy, Phillip Leishman, and Peter Williams.
