This magazine-style children's show acts as a great time capsule for New Zealand in 1996; from the fashion to the graphics, to the interviews with real Kiwi kids. The show was nothing if not varied — this episode alone features reporting on apple orchards, night-vision googles, an old-fashioned barber shop and an early-VFX production house. The slew of in-the-field reporters includes a young Miriama Kamo, and future director/producer Dean Cornish. Get Real joins the canon of beloved kids' TV shows produced in Christchurch in the 1990s, including What Now?, The Son of a Gunn Show and Bumble.
