In October 2020, New Zealanders voted in a referendum to determine whether euthanasia (or "assisted dying") should be legalised. Ahead of the big day — the same day Kiwis cast their votes in the 2020 General Election — Newshub ran a televised debate between those in support of, and those in opposition to, the Act; including doctors, lawyers, academics, community leaders and everyday Kiwis. Moderated by Paddy Gower, the debate is immediately heated and emotional on both sides. The stakes were high; unlike the cannabis referendum that happened at the same time, the result of the euthanasia referendum would be binding for Aotearoa.
