Sound recordist Paul 'Chatts' Chattington worked in Kiwi film and television for over 40 years. After emigrating from his native England when he was a child, Chattington's family settled in Wellington, where he would be based for much of his career. As a school-leaver he was hired at the newly founded Avalon Studios, and tried his hand at a number of jobs before discovering he was a natural sound recordist. Chattington worked across a wide variety of screen formats — drama, documentary, news and sporting events. He had strong ties to TVNZ and Sky Sports. Paul Chattington passed away on 29 May 2022, at age 66.

“I recall interviewing a subject on a busy street corner one day with traffic constantly going past ... Well I don't know what microphone he was using that day but I can tell you that when we got that interview on the editing bench the sound was so perfect that if you weren't watching the pictures you wouldn´t have known there was any traffic on the road that day.”
