Sound recordist Paul 'Chatts' Chattington worked in Kiwi film and television for over 40 years. After emigrating from his native England when he was a child, Chattington's family settled in Wellington, where he would be based for much of his career. As a school-leaver he was hired at the newly founded Avalon Studios, and tried his hand at a number of jobs before discovering he was a natural sound recordist. Chattington worked across a wide variety of screen formats drama, documentary, news and sporting events. He had strong ties to TVNZ and Sky Sports. Paul Chattington passed away on 29 May 2022, at age 66.

“I recall interviewing a subject on a busy street corner one day with traffic constantly going past ... Well I don't know what microphone he was using that day but I can tell you that when we got that interview on the editing bench the sound was so perfect that if you weren't watching the pictures you wouldn´t have known there was any traffic on the road that day.”
