After thirteen years working in broadcasting as a director and vision mixer, Jan Wharekawa stepped away from the industry for a time to set her sights on raising her whānau with her partner, journalist Colin Hogg. Wharekawa reflects on the rhythms of raising her five tamariki — Summer, Gemma, Rima, Jamie, and Uma — while Hogg describes her as “operating with her own philosophy”. This short profile was produced as part of the Wāhine Māori series from long-running programme Marae. Directed by Tiraroa Debra Reweti, the Wāhine Māori specials celebrated inspiring Māori women from across Aotearoa.
