Sports presenter Chris Chang brings Neighbourhood to his childhood home of Karori to showcase and celebrate the Wellington suburb's diversity. Chang, a Kiwi Malaysian-Chinese, introduces four families who have made Aotearoa their home — all for very different reasons. There's the Dutch viola player who spent 27 years with the NZ Symphony Orchestra, a Russian housewife who supports her diplomat husband on his placements, an Iranian woman who fled religious persecution in her home country, and the Holocaust survivor and her family who started anew in the sprawling suburb.
I knew my mother was a Holocaust survivor of course, because she had her number tattooed on her arm. But we never asked any questions. And she never talked about it.– Jewish New Zealander Carol Calkoen on her late mother Hanka Pressburg
