Oliver’s sister leads us through what she believes is a normal day with her brother, but all is not what it seems. The short film won the 2022 OnScreen filmmaking challenge for high school students. The three-person team behind this study of buried trauma was led by director Pepi Olliver-Bell, a Year 13 student from Wellington’s Onslow College. Louise Gromme, who co-wrote the film with Olliver-Bell, plays Oliver’s sister to dramatic effect. Jennifer Ward-Lealand, one of the judges, called it "an assured piece of filmmaking with a terrific aesthetic”. Entrants chose from four categories — Oliver was submitted under the ‘Twist’ brief.
Excellent believable performance — I was totally absorbed in the world you had created. Beautifully shot from start to finish. An impressive consistency and excellent standard in terms of design aesthetic, style, soundtrack, lighting, and overall tone.– Judge Kate Ward-Smythe
