Before finding fame on some of opera’s grandest international stages, brothers Pene and Amitai Pati called South Auckland home. Tenor: My Name is Pati follows the pair's rise from singing in church halls to success with trio Sol3 Mio and international opera debuts. Directed by Rebecca Tansley (The Strangest of Angels), the documentary was shot across seven countries, including Samoa — the siblings' birthplace. Behind-the-scenes and backstage moments are intermingled with family home video, revealing the charisma, culture and determination that shaped their remarkable careers.
Pene and Amitai’s story is so much more than a story about opera singers. It’s about family and culture, and a beautiful testament to the transformative power of music — of all kinds.– Rebbecca Tansley on the story behind the documentary, in a press release for the film, Scoop website, 12 November 2025
