The Topp Twins made their debut on country music show That's Country by bringing the blues and the country. Taken from a 1984 swing and blues special, the song is 'Sad Dog', a Topp Twins original. Lynda Topp — clad in tuxedo pants and a bow tie — puts in a barnstorming performance on her harmonica, while Jools lays down blues licks on her guitar. The twins' love of country music is legendary; they learnt "real old country and western tunes" around the radiogram of their childhood Waikato home. The sisters sang together from early on; this performance showcases their "almost telepathic" harmonies.
We were into the real old country and western tunes. This was ‘Sleeping Under The Bluegums On The Lonesome Trail’ kind of stuff.”– Jool Topp on the Topp Twin's deep love of country music, AudioCulture website, 6 April 2018
'Sad Dog' composed by Jools Topp, and performed by the Topp Twins
