American-born John Palino made his name as a restaurateur, before two unsuccessful bids to be Auckland's mayor. In this reality series he comes to the aid of struggling New Zealand eateries, to help set them on the right path. In this episode Invercargill’s Strathern Inn is bleeding money, has a bad rep, and is possibly haunted. With a savvy planning, and help from local mayor Tim Shadbolt, Palino gets the staff trained up and puts the Inn on the path to success. The Inn’s reputation had been damaged by financial fraud under former owners. Unfortunately, success was short-lived as the ageing building was demolished in 2012.
It's great to see the staff are getting involved and the kitchen's doing great. The customers love the food. They're pointed in the right direction now. I wish them luck!– John Palino
