Quite A Ladd
1973 42m Short film
- Documentary
Captain Fred Ladd OBE was an ebullient pioneering aviator, who led a life of adventure. Ladd presents his life story with the flair and humour he was famous for. He reminisces on his company Tourist Air Travel, which saw him fly an amphibian aircraft (the Widgeon) for tourists and the isolated locals of the Hauraki Gulf. For over a decade, Ladd ferried tourists, made deliveries, spread ashes and responded to medical emergencies in his beloved Widgeon. Ladd also reflects on his time flying in WWII, flying illegally under Auckland Harbour Bridge and struggles with ageism.
