The Poisoning of New Zealand
1995 42m Television
- News/Current Affairs
- Documentary
This 1995 Inside New Zealand documentary really tests the self-promoted "industrially clean and uncontaminated paradise" image of Aotearoa. The poisonous chemicals Whakatāne Sawmill workers have worked so closely with over decades (particularly PCP), alongside the lack of protective measures taken by their employers, have left these men experiencing a plethora of long-lasting symptoms and health issues. These range from migraines, dizzy spells and boils, to cancer. The workers and their whānau join forces to make their cases known to politicians and councillors through the Sawmill Workers Against Poisons advocacy group.
