About Face - Return Journey

In this About Face anthology short, Alison (Mary Regan) is a young professional living in Auckland, and finding it hard to visit her childhood home — and not just because she's busy. Her mother Edith (Elizabeth McRae) is a widowed empty-nester, and it seems the women couldn't be more different. Flashback scenes reveal how both women were raised to conform to conservative gender roles, and the hurt Alison feels that Edith didn't encourage her to pursue further education. For writer/director Shereen Maloney, the film touches on the tensions arising when succeeding generations have differing choices available to them.
