Te Pāmu Kūmara is one of the first te reo Māori scripted drama live-action series for tamariki. In this first episode, the young protagonist Tai (Owairea Tawera) introduces the audience to her treasured nan (Kararaina Rangihau), her wider whānau and their beloved kūmara farm. At 12 minutes long, the episode cracks along at pace, and trouble is soon afoot as the enigmatic Grace (Acushla-Tara Kupe) pays a visit. After her offer to buy the family farm is rejected, she leaves a mysterious wind chime as a gift, which has a strange effect on Tai who is a matakite (a person who can predict the future).
