About
Spanning decades, historical epic The Governor offers many angles on New Zealand's third Governor, George Grey. Designed to reveal how "good Governor Grey" was also an adulturous, drug-taking dictator, the series chronicles key conflicts between Māori and Pākehā during the 1800s — alongside episodes devoted to Grey's run-ins with his wife (episode two), his second in command (three) and an increasingly disillusioned general (five). A rare Kiwi stab at a TV epic, the six-part drama proved timely and controversial, with "test match sized" audiences and a parliamentary inquiry over its costs. The Governor won Feltex Awards for Drama and Script.
