Some of Antony Starr’s earliest screen roles were on Shortland Street, on which he played three different characters. But unlike Van and Jethro West in Outrageous Fortune, those characters didn't make a habit of turning up in the same scene. Starr has also starred in movie After the Waterfall, TV movie Spies and Lies, and American series Banshee.
In this ScreenTalk conducted before Starr relocated to the United States, Starr talks about:
- Dealling with the relentless shooting schedule of Shortland Street
- Knife fights and leaping to his death on Street Legal
- How his role on Mercy Peak provided inspiration for hit show Outrageous Fortune
- The importance of the director when he's acting
- Working with Anthony Hopkins and Roger Donaldson on The World’s Fastest Indian
- The satisfaction of playing nasty characters, like in acclaimed feature In My Father’s Den
- The joys and challenges of playing twin brothers Van and Jethro West on Outrageous Fortune
- The varied noises people make when they recognise him
- What it was like to play a grieving father in 2010 feature After the Waterfall
- An insight into the story behind TV movie Spies and Lies
