The name Stephen Regelous is often associated with crowded battlefields. After creating software programmes for film, Regelous designed Massive for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The programme generates up to half a million independent 'agents', driven by artificial intelligence. Earning Regelous an Academy Award, Massive has since been used in 70+ feature films, from Inception to the jungle scenes in Avatar.
