Mataku - The Fishing Trip (Te Hi Ika)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2002

In this episode from supernatural anthology series Mataku, the show's co-creator Carey Carter writes and directs the tale of some friends who reunite for a fishing trip. Luke (Hemi Rudolph) takes the boys to a fishing spot that's "out of this world" — it is also worryingly close to a sacred island. Ron (Geoffrey Dolan from Kai Kōrero), who scoffs at most matters Māori, refuses to believe a tapu could be causing a strange run of events which sees their boat losing power, after a mysterious encounter at sea. But when the group are forced to stay on the island overnight, things get far worse.
