'Poor Boy' was one of the Split Enz songs given the orchestral treatment for hit 1996 concert and album ENZSO. Backing Dave Dobbyn are the NZ Symphony Orchestra and the NZ Youth Choir. This video amplifies the song's moodiness and mystery via dark shadows, out of this world imagery, a possible homage to The Shining — and a cameo by ENZSO instigator Eddie Rayner, behind a newspaper. Director Justin Pemberton was nominated for an NZ Film and TV Award for Best Music Video. He also captured the Enzso project in documentary ENZSO - Dirty Creatures.
