Musician Don McGlashan and actor Harry Sinclair formed The Front Lawn in 1985. Mixing dance, whimsy and kitchen utensils as musical instruments, they toured internationally and won theatre awards in the United Kingdom. In 1989 actor Jennifer Ward-Lealand came on board, and they released their debut album Songs from the Front Lawn. Song 'Andy' was voted number 82 in APRA's list of the Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time. More Songs from The Front Lawn followed in 1993. Their short films — Walkshort, The Lounge Bar and surreal romance Linda's Body — are as playful and layered as their musical compositions.
