From the Album More Songs From the Front Lawn (1993)
Multimedia group The Front Lawn dug beneath the veneer of Kiwi suburbia to discover darker realities. 'The Beautiful Things' joins the group's earlier track 'The Wedding Song' and Mutton Birds song 'The Heater', in using domestic appliances as symbols of spiritual longing. Made with director Fane Flaws, this award-winning video offers a retro ode to the thrill of consumerism. It becomes increasingly frenzied, with cheesy graphics and salesman Harry Sinclair's passion for 'beautiful things' getting kinky. As with their film Walkshort, Sinclair and Don McGlashan play multiple roles, joined by dancers and a hunky assistant.
