A Funeral
1999 11m Short film
- Drama
Old loves, family and sexuality are all bubbling under the surface in this short film from director Dorthe Scheffman (Vermilion). Susan (Judy McIntosh from Ngāti) crosses paths with old boyfriend Brian (Greg Johnson) at the rural wake for her childhood friend Gary. Their mutual attraction is a mix of familiarity, grief, and paths not taken. The film is also a story of conservative New Zealand struggling with the issue of homosexuality. The scenes between Gary's mother (played by Dorothy McKegg) and Susan are loaded with mutual loss. Scheffman has a long career as a producer.
