Tama

2017 8m Short film
  • Drama

This poetic rite-of-passage short follows a shy, deaf teenager — the eponomous Tama — as he tries to learn the haka, amongst his fraught family life. Set over the course of one day, a near-death experience forces Tama to confront his troubled father, and his own fears. Co-directed by Jack O'Donnell and Jared Flitcroft, they describe the work as a " result of a unique collaboration between Deaf and hearing filmmakers." Tama enjoyed a busy festival run in 2017, including the New Zealand International Film Festival and prestigious imagineNATIVE festival in Toronto.
