The documentary unveils how the stunts, makeup effects and otherworldly production design were achieved. The mainly Māori cast and crew talk about dramatising traditional stories for contemporary settings. Bradford Haami, who co-created Mataku with Carey Carter, discusses researching potential stories, guided by kaumatua, and adapting old Māori tales for a contemporary audience.
