Close to Home was New Zealand's very first soap opera. Based on the life and times of a Wellington family, the Heartes, as well as their friends and neighbours, it screened from 1975 until 1983. In the first in a series of interviews looking back at New Zealand screen history, Jesse Mulligan is joined by former television producer and industry veteran Irene Gardiner.
