War, earthquake, drought, flood, volcanic eruption, the gold rush, depression, economic growth, affluence … Nga Kahikatea’s eyes have seen them all, nearly 12 decades from sailing ships to a man on the moon. She has outlived four husbands and many of her children. Is it any wonder she is proud of her heritage and her moko?
