Intrepid Journeys - Papua New Guinea (Pamela Stephenson Connolly)

Television – 2012

In this Intrepid Journeys episode, psychologist, author and ex-comedian Pamela Stephenson Connolly visits Papua New Guinea, home to more than 800 languages. Stephenson Connolly takes in traditional villages in the Western Highlands and visits the coastal town of Wewak, used by the Japanese army in WWII as an air base. She takes a four day cruise along the Sepik River and attends a Crocodile Festival where villagers 'wear' the reptiles like slings across their bodies and take part in vivid ceremonial dances. She also talks her way into a spirit house, a sacred space for male initiation ceremonies.

I have long been an expert in outdoor peeing — for a girl I'm pretty good, put it that way.
– Presenter Pamela Stephenson Connolly feels the need while waiting for her plane to Wewak
