Roche - First Episode

Television (Full Length Episode) – 1985

Gritty urban drama series Roche followed the ups and downs of a family run trucking business based in the Hutt Valley. In this first episode, work pressures and relationships both in and out of the bedroom take centre stage. Oldest brother Mick (John Bach, from Duggan) clocks up the miles shifting freight to and from Auckland. He takes on under the counter jobs, attracting the ire of union reps. Meanwhile his younger brother Tony (Marlin Bay's Andy Anderson) is busy juggling an extramarital affair at the expense of paid work, angering some of his Pasifika in-laws.

...I know it's highway robbery but listen, you don't want to head all the way back to Wellington with nothing on your trailer but a paint job, do you?
– The Auckland manager (Tama Poata) persuades Mick to take on a quick job
