This 'making of' goes behind the scenes of the music video for Smashproof's chart-topper 'Brother', which won Best Music Video at the 2009 Vodafone NZ Music Awards. The 10 minute featurette includes interviews with Smashproof, talking about their song (a "metaphor for South Auckland"). Meanwhile director Chris Graham discusses the concept of cruising the streets in an invisible car — the idea "came from Sid's opening lyric: 'I've got my hand on the windowsill looking out at the world'..." Fascinating footage from the film set shows how the invisible car was executed, and other interesting tidbits.
[I was] trying to think how we refresh the hip hop video genre, which is pretty tired . . . I kind of thought what if they were floating through South Auckland, as if they were in a car but you couldn't see the car, and that being a visual metaphor to match the metaphor of the song.– Music video director Chris Graham

...the floating car idea is one way of showing that they're being quite naked, I guess, and open in how they feel about things.
