Friendship Centre

1973 34m Television
  • Drama

Set in the living room of a suburban home, this intimate drama follows two couples gathering for a dinner party. But, as the conversation shifts from small talk to sharper jabs, simmering marital tensions and racial prejudice rise to the surface. Written by one of NZ's first professional playwrights, Robert Lord, Friendship Centre was first produced as a radio play in 1972. It was adapted for television the following year as a part of the New Zealand Playhouse series. The title refers to a local church-run 'Friendship Centre', and talk of it exposes just how fragile the four friends' good manners can be.
