With their canvas tent providing little protection from the New Zealand weather, the Hutton family set about building sturdier accommodation in this episode of reality series Colonial House, living as if it were the 1850s. Dad Ross puts in some elbow grease alongside period-dressed tradesmen to build a simple settler V-frame hut, a temporary one-room cabin to shelter the family while they build their new home. Meanwhile, Mum Dorothy faces a very different challenge: a week’s worth of the family's laundry to boil, scrub, wring and starch entirely by hand, all while trying to keep the young ones occupied.
